The Kapazi Alert Tactile Warning Floor Tile marks the critical points of any accessible route with raised truncated-cone studs: the beginning and end of staircases, in front of elevators, ramps with an incline equal to or greater than 5%, and changes in direction. Detectable both with a long cane and the sole of the foot, each 25 x 25 cm tile made of 100% PVC communicates danger before it occurs, without relying on the user’s vision.

It is installed by bonding it to the existing floor, with no demolition required and traffic permitted after 24 hours. Available in Yellow, Royal Blue, and Black, the colors were selected to ensure the minimum 30-point LRV difference required by NBR 16537:2024. Each box contains 16 pieces and covers exactly 1 m², making it easier to calculate the quantity needed for the project. To create a technically compliant route, the Alert model must be used together with the Kapazi Directional Tactile Floor Tile, as required by the standard.

1	Cleaning the surface Clean the installation area with a cloth dampened with alcohol, removing dust, grease, and residue. Allow the surface to dry completely before proceeding.
2	Marking the layout Use masking tape to mark the exact position of each tile on the floor, following the technical layout defined in accordance with ABNT NBR 16537:2024.
3	Applying the contact adhesive Apply contact adhesive evenly to both the floor and the back of the tile. Observe the drying time specified by the adhesive manufacturer before joining the surfaces.
4	Positioning and pressing the tile Position the tile over the marked area and apply firm, even pressure across the entire surface to ensure complete adhesion.
5	Allowing the adhesive to cure Observe the following periods after installation: light traffic only after 24 hours; resistance testing only after 48 hours; first cleaning only after 72 hours. The adhesive reaches full cure in 7 days.

Surface compatibility

This product is suitable for smooth, even floors in indoor or protected outdoor environments. Do not install it on rough, uneven surfaces or in areas with constant moisture, as adhesive bonding will be compromised.

Route planning

Before starting, plan the complete layout of the accessible route in accordance with ABNT NBR 16537:2024. The warning surface must be used together with the directional surface; using only one of the models is insufficient to create a functional accessible route.

Color selection

Select a color that provides a minimum difference of 30 LRV points from the adjacent floor, assessed in both dry and wet conditions. Yellow is traditionally recommended for outdoor environments because of its high visibility; black and royal blue are alternatives for light-colored indoor floors.

Routine cleaning

Cleaning must be carried out manually, covering the entire surface of the raised areas to remove dirt accumulated between the raised bumps.

Can I use only the Warning tile without the Guiding tile?

No. NBR 16537:2024 requires that warning tactile paving, with truncated cone reliefs, be used in conjunction with directional tactile paving, with linear reliefs, to create a functional and technically correct accessible path. The isolated use of only one of the models is insufficient to ensure complete guidance and safety along the path.

How do I install the tiles? Do I need to break the existing floor?

There is no need to break up the floor. It is fixed by contact adhesive directly onto the existing, clean, and smooth floor. After application and positioning, light traffic should only be allowed after 24 hours and the first cleaning only after 72 hours, with full adhesive curing in 7 days.

How do I clean the plates without damaging the raised designs?

Cleaning should be done with a damp cloth or soft brush and water with neutral soap, thoroughly covering the surface of the raised elements. It is forbidden to use solvents, thinners, alcohol, alkaline detergents, or high-pressure water, as these products degrade the PVC and compromise the tactile function of the signs. The first cleaning can only be performed 72 hours after installation.

Is the product suitable for outdoor use?

The plaques are suitable for indoor and protected outdoor environments with smooth and uniform flooring, such as covered entrances, lobbies, and corridors. For open outdoor areas with high traffic or significant exposure to rain, materials such as ceramic or cast concrete are technically more appropriate. Irregular, rough, or constantly damp surfaces are also not recommended for adhesive mounting.
